Geological Model of Coal Deposits

Apart from gold exploration and mining, BYG group has been exploring for coal in the Bintulu and Mukah-Balingian Coalfields since the early 1980’s.

Major multi-seam lignite rank coal deposits namely the Panareh and Panjai coal deposits in Ulu Balingian, Mukah Division, Sarawak had been discovered by Buroi Mining Sdn Bhd under BYG Group.

As part of the implementation of the Sarawak State Coal Policy, BYG Group through its subsidiaries Buroi Mining Sdn Bhd and Nexton Sdn Bhd had entered into a Joint Venture Agreement with Sarawak Energy Resources Sdn Bhd to develop, mine and supply coal to SEB’s new mine-mouth 2×300 MW Balingian coal-fired power plants. The projected annual coal supply is 1.6 Mt with the first coal delivery targeted at the end of the 2nd quarter of 2017. The Balingian Coal Mine would become the largest open pit coal mine in Malaysia when fully developed.
